Dehydrating Leftover Fruit

I don’t know about anyone else, but I like to buy in bulk…especially fruit. However, being a family of 3 we don’t always eat it all before it starts to go bad. So trying to waste as little as possible, we dehydrate what is left.

We just cut the fruit, in this case apples and oranges, into thin(ish) slices, peel and all, and put in the dehydrator, set at 135°. The dehydrating times really depends on how much moisture is in the fruit, but it will take at least several hours!

The apple slices we eat as is or they can be ground into a powder that I use in baking. The orange slices can also be eaten, although the peel is bitter, but we typically use them to flavor our herbal teas. More on that in another post. 😉

Dehydrating is a great way to store and save things that might otherwise have ended up in the garbage. Dehydrated fruit it also awesome to send in Eva’s lunch as they don’t spill or rot or make a mess in her lunch box but she’s still getting the benefits of the fruit!

What is your favorite thing to dehydrate?
