We are planning to expand the garden again this year. We needed more space as we’ve added quite a few new veggies to our rotation. Unfortunately the soil on the other side of the garden is mostly hard packed clay and rocks, and we just don’t have the time to work it and break it down. It took us several years to get the main garden soil nice and workable. So our solution for this year is raised beds. We’re starting with four for this year, with room to add four more if needed. We tarped the space to kill off the grass, and put the boxes in place. I’ll cut out the tarp within the boxes once we are ready to fill them so hopefully over time the roots from what we grow can break down the clay further. Last thing that needs to be added is some fencing to keep the deer and groundhog out.
